The Politics of International Human Rights Law - IRPG830
This unit explores the evolving system of international rules and principles that have given rise to the rights of the individual through International Human Rights Law and International Humanitarian Law (the rules which regulate conduct during armed conflict). The unit considers the historical development of human rights and the norms and regimes established at an international level to protect and promote both human rights and humanitarian law. Broadly the unit will consider the paradoxical claims of the State to sovereignty and non-interference within the domestic realm, with that of persons or groups claiming their individual or collective human rights.
