Financial Institutions - FREG802
This unit systematically identifies the key participants that comprise the financial system and explains their roles as intermediaries and service providers. It outlines the business models for banks, insurance companies, pension funds, securities firms/investment managers, Islamic financial institutions, and co-operative financial institutions. It also considers the types of financial conglomerates and outlines the arguments that support the combining of: banks and insurance companies, banks and securities firms; and securities firms and insurance companies. It identifies the roles/responsibilities of the supporting professionals that service financial institutions and explains how conflicts of interest are managed.
