Advanced Pedagogy - EDCN813
Current debates in Australian education and public policy focus on the issues of curriculum and assessment. Central to any discussion should be the role of pedagogy. Pedagogy is more than just teaching. It is the crafting together of teachers' professional knowledge, skills, and abilities, to create effective learning opportunities and outcomes for all students in a range of contexts. This unit explores questions such as: How can research inform pedagogical practice and enhance teacher professional development? What is the evidence base about effective pedagogy? Why are teacher quality, capability, and critical reflection important for improved educational achievement? What is the nature of the relationship between teaching and learning? How is this enacted in practice? Where does pedagogy fit with curriculum and assessment? A teaching background is preferable for this unit because there are opportunities for students to examine and reflect critically on their own repertoire of pedagogical strategies.
