History, Archaeology and Documents of the Egyptian Hyksos Period - AHPG877

The unit will examine the archaeological remains of the Egyptian Hyksos Period from different sites and particularly those of Thebes, Assuit, El-Kab and the north-east of the Delta, with a focus on analysing the material culture in funerary and settlement contexts. A study of the important texts of the period will be undertaken, which illustrate the interaction between the Egyptians and their foreign occupiers during the Hyksos period. The texts to be studied in the original language and interpreted will include the biography of Ahmose, son of Ibana, and the inscriptions in tombs and on stelae.
