Religion in the Roman World - AHPG836
This unit studies in depth aspects of religion and religious practice in Ancient Rome. It analyses the nature of Roman deities, Roman perception of their deities, the identification of foreign deities with Roman deities, Roman religious practice, and Roman response to the introduction of foreign religions. In addition, there is in-depth study of the nexus between religion and society. Sources analysed are literary texts, documentary texts (including letters), inscriptions, treatises, and art and architecture.
