SOC298: Generations: Childhood, Adulthood and Old Age
At a time when labels such as Generation Y and the baby boomers are widely used to point to the potential for conflict between the generations, this exciting unit focuses on the link between age, personal identity and society. It examines changes in the life course over the generations and addresses a key sociological question: How does social change intersect with the human biography? We will critically examine how childhood, youth, adulthood and old age have been socially constructed; explore ideas about generations and develop an understanding of the relationships between them over time.
