PHYS159: Concepts in the Physical Sciences
This unit provides an introduction to the concepts of physical science, with everyday examples of physical principles in action. Students will gain insights into how the world works – from bionic ears to rocket propulsion! Areas to be covered include: energy in all its forms; properties of matter, atoms and radioactivity; motion and forces; electricity; sound and light; and heat. The material is introduced with a minimum of mathematics and an emphasis on understanding the concepts. A well equipped laboratory provides students with a supportive introduction to basic scientific measurements.
