MCD348: Advanced Macedonian III

This unit is designed for students with an advanced knowledge of Macedonian. Specific linguistic topics are discussed including: the historical development of the Macedonian language; the codification of the Macedonian standard language; and dialectology (the differentiation of the Macedonian dialects). It explores the notions of languages in contact and contrastive analysis (Macedonian-English) in relation to the position of the Macedonian language in Australia. Students are introduced to research methods and fieldwork in dialectology and socio-linguistics. Practical stylistic exercises and the translation of texts in the scholarly register are provided.
