MAR201: Introduction to Marine Science
Understanding the marine environment requires a basic knowledge of biological, physical, geological, and chemical processes and how they interact. Increasingly, it also encompasses an understanding of the way marine resources can be exploited, and suitably managed. In this unit we examine the primary processes driving marine systems, by examining the major fundamental sciences exploring the marine geosphere, the marine hydrosphere, the marine biosphere and then finishing with an overview of marine resources, management and conservation. There is a compulsory field excursion.
