LAW487: China Trade and Investment Law

This unit gives students an overview of Chinese laws that are relevant to foreign trade and foreign investment in China, and will conduct a critical analysis of these laws. The global impact of these laws will also be analysed, along with how the law impacts on Australia. Topics covered include: important aspects of Chinese commercial law (including foreign trade law, foreign investment laws, contract law, labour law, intellectual property law, environmental law, taxation, company law); the Chinese governmental system; the Chinese Constitution; legal system; the influence of Chinese legal history on law and legal culture in China today; law-making mechanisms in China; the influence of Chinese culture on the conduct of business in China; and the progress of China in world trade markets as a result of its membership of the World Trade Organisation.
