JPS121: Japan - Past and Present
This unit aims to assist students to develop a fundamental platform for their holistic understanding of Japan by providing them with general historical knowledge of Japan and the transitions it has undergone. Selected topics and issues of each historical period are introduced through audio-visual, photographic and reading materials, and examined in relation to their impact and influence on contemporary Japan. Assessment is based on a number of assignments (such as an online quiz, PowerPoint presentation and essay) and formal examination. This unit is taught in English and no prior knowledge of Japanese language is required.
