COMP343: Cryptography and Information Security
This unit provides an introduction to modern private and public key cryptography. After a short mathematical introduction and a brief outline of major goals and problems of modern cryptography, several private key ciphers such as DES and AES and public key ciphers such as RSA and ElGamal are discussed. Cryptographic hash functions and digital signatures are also introduced. These basic cryptographic primitives are used to design communication protocols for real world applications. Various attacks on the presented cryptographic schemes and protocols are discussed.
