ASN101: Asia in the Global Context
This unit aims to build students' broad and fundamental appreciation of the diversity, hybridity, positioning and interaction of Asian countries in the globe. This unit facilitates a sophisticated understanding of the increasingly relevant and influential role played by 21st century Asia in a global context, and builds an inter-disciplinary platform for further study of other specific areas. Experts from diverse backgrounds analyse a wide range of issues, which make up today's Asia, from political, economical, historical, socio-cultural and religious perspectives. With the expectation of attracting students from various backgrounds, enthusiastic interaction between students is strongly encouraged to maximise opportunities for broadening immediate, intercultural awareness of Asia, and to nurture engagement with the beliefs, values and activities of other cultures in our closely inter-related globe. The unit is conducted in English.
