ABST200: Contested Issues in Indigenous Studies
After reviewing the historical, political and sociological context of Indigenous Studies in post-colonial Australia we move to a more global perspective. We do this by interrogating various conceptual frameworks that have shaped understandings of colonial encounters between Indigenous peoples and their various colonisers the world over, and conduct some comparative analyses of specific cases. In particular we are concerned with understanding ideas of colonialism in the 20th and 21st centuries and how these relate to ideas of race and culture.
