TRAN819: Introduction to Text Analysis and Translation
This unit is concerned with the nature of text, and with the strategies for analysing text in a given language as an instance of the systems of meaning in that language. It explores how text analysis can be applied to various aspects of the process of translation and interpreting, including: 1) source texts to give us insight into what translation problems they may pose; 2) target texts to help us assess the effectiveness and naturalness of the translation; and 3) comparable texts in the source language and the target language as a way of developing resources that can be used in the process of translation.
