ECON898: Evolution of Economic Ideas
This unit covers the major developments in economic analysis since the eighteenth century and before. The main emphasis is on tracing the historical evolution of modern economic theories, but the philosophical and socio-economic factors which have influenced the development of economic ideas are also given importance. The aims are to acquaint students with the major contributions and the main controversies in the evolution of economic analysis; and to enable students to analyse the reasons for changes in economic thinking to acquire a deeper insight and persepective on the nature of modern economics.
