AHPG837: Roman Eastern Frontier
The aim of this unit is to make an in-depth study of Rome's eastern defences against a nascent Persian Empire from 226-363. This will include a survey of literary and epigraphical evidence as well as archaeological. Topics will cover not only accounts of campaigns and expeditions but also strategic thinking and influence of commerce and of the spread of religions, especially Christianity and Manichaeism in the frontier regions.
