Postgraduate Certificate in Special Education (Gifted Education)

Description

This program aims to provide teachers and associated professionals with the skills and knowledge to identify children who are intellectually gifted and to provide for their educational needs. Issues addressed will include identification, models in gifted education, integration of gifted programs into the regular curriculum as well as social and emotional issues. An important feature of this program is a focus on the examination of research and how it informs practice. In addition to completing the unit SPED909 Gifted Education: Identification and Intervention students will complete a unit on research methods, SPED801, and have the opportunity to investigate a specific area of gifted education through an in-depth literature review in the project unit SPED901. Candidates successfully completing the requirements for the Certificate may have these units credited towards the Postgraduate Diploma in Special Education and/or the Master of Special Education.
