MUS202: Introduction to Music Technique

This unit is the first in a series of practical Virtual Studio Technology units, which deal with developing compositional and technical skill and creativity within the virtual studio recording environment. Musical Instrument Digital Interface (MIDI) composition, sequencing programs, and fundamental music production concepts are covered, providing students with a foundation for further audio production subjects. No prior musical or computer production skills, beyond that acquired in MUS100 Passion, Rebellion and Identity in Popular Music, are necessary. A key component of these units is the development of compositional and musical literacy, according to students' musical preference. Creativity is highly encouraged, and each unit in this stream entails the production of original musical works. Cubase music production software is used throughout these units.
