LAW539: Property in Natural Resources
Who owns nature? How are natural resources such as energy, water and food conceptualised and regulated by the notions of private, public and common property? This unit addresses these questions through a study of contemporary and controversial contexts such as the ownership of the genetic structure of crops; trade in water; and the private ownership of energy. Students also study the economic and environmental philosophies that inform solutions to these legal dilemmas. The unit is relevant to those interested in the development and litigation of natural resources law.
