JPS221: Modern Japanese Society
This unit is designed to comprehensively explore contemporary Japanese society. It looks at various aspects of modern Japanese society, such as the Japanese concept of family; ethnicity; minority groups in Japan; business and banking; the education system; social welfare; environmental issues; and media and telecommunications. Assessment is based on a number of assignments such as class participations, online quizzes, presentation and an essay. This unit is taught in English and no prior knowledge of Japanese language is required.
