ABFS111: Introduction to Academic Literacies
This foundation academic literacy unit assists students to develop the ability to read and critically evaluate academic and professional texts. Students are also introduced to the conventions that should be used when writing academic texts in the discipline of early childhood education. Students develop their oral presentation skills and begin to develop an ability to understand and critically evaluate information presented in lectures. Electronic databases and a range of relevant computer software are used that help students to construct texts, manipulate images, create presentations and store and retrieve information for the purpose of online learning. Students are encouraged to reflect upon their personal literacy skills and introduced to strategies that may be used to support the development of these skills.
