STAT828: Data Mining

Data mining is widely used in large insurance companies, market research organisations, banks and other financial institutions. Various relevant multivariate methods will be introduced and their application(s) demonstrated using data mining packages. Preliminary data analysis, graphical tools to explore the data set(s) and to present the results will precede the introduction and applications of data mining algorithms such as classification and market basket analysis. Students will prepare at least one data mining report as part of their learning.
