STAT817: Bioinformatics

Bioinformatics addresses problems related to the storage, retrieval and analysis of information about biological structure. This unit provides a broad-ranging study of bioinformatics, covering quantitative methods in population genetics, the analysis of single and multiple sequences, hidden Markov models, evolutionary models, phylogenetics and microarray analysis. It also includes study of web-based data sources, data retrieval and BLAST, and uses the statistical package R. A background in biology is desirable.
