SPH813: Professional Practice I

This unit will provide an overview of the practice of speech pathology, the range, nature and implications of communication disorders, and will introduce students to various resources available to assist in their skill development and in the delivery of speech pathology services. Basic assessment and intervention management of clients with communication disorders, as required in concurrent clinical placements, will be discussed. In addition, students will be introduced to basic sign language skills and the use of assistive devices, including low and high technology augmentative and alternative communication.
