SOC830: Doing Social Survey Research
Social survey research, and the interpretation of survey findings using statistical methods, are valuable tools for social researchers.
The first part of this unit looks at how to write questionnaires and field surveys. We take a close look at the theory and practice of social survey research, considering: the reliability of opinion polling, the problems involved with sampling and fieldwork, and what respondents are doing when they answer survey questions. We also address a number of pitfalls and problems that social researchers encounter, and suggest practical solutions.
