MHPG918: Rights and the Evolution of Australian Citizenship

Citizenship stands at the centre of current debates about nation, identity and belonging, worldwide. This unit explores Australian debates about citizenship in historical context. What does citizenship mean and how has it evolved since 1788? In particular, we trace various discourses on rights (human, women's, ethnic, Indigenous) and examine their impact on conceptions of citizenship.
