In particular the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and Cartagena Protocol will be explored as global responses to biodiversity loss. Specific topics covered include legal mechanisms to conserve and manage, protect and sustainably use biodiversity, genetically modified organisms, the regulation of biotechnology, bio-prospecting, access to genetic resources and benefit sharing agreements and the challenge of bio-piracy.
