BIOL816: Plant Ecophysiology

This unit provides the fundamental background to understand how and why plants work the way they do. Bridging ecology and plant physiology, the unit shows how plant and ecosystem function can be understood in terms of the physical, physiological, and biochemical processes that govern plant growth. Suitable for students involved in any plant-related field, including agriculture, conservation, and natural resource management, this unit provides a sound knowledge of how plants work and fit into our world.

Field and glasshouse based practical work is carried out in block practicals. Students are expected to design, carry out and analyse their own mini-research projects. Students also gain experience in summarising scientific literature and preparing grant proposals.
