Postgraduate Certificate in Special Education (Behavioural Problems)

Abbreviation: PGCertSpEd(BP)

Description

This program provides a substantive non-categorical rationale for the management of behaviour. The program is designed to introduce students to a wide range of research-based practice in behaviour management and to assist students to develop a research-based approach to the day-to-day management of behaviour. The inclusion of the unit SPED804 Effective Literacy Instruction reflects the emphasis on the relationship between poor classroom behaviour and lack of academic success and, in particular, poor academic progress in literacy. This unit ensures that students undertaking the Certificate have a sound grasp of effective literacy instruction as well as the research-based instructional principles underpinning effective behaviour and classroom management. Candidates successfully completing the requirements for the Certificate may have these units credited towards the Postgraduate Diploma in Special Education and/or the Master of Special Education.
