Demographics refers to a statistical analysis of people using variables such as age, gender, race, family structure and ethnic background. It is a useful tool for market segmentation that helps marketers to identify consumers and satisfy their needs with relevant products and services. The ability to collect, analyze and interpret demographic data enables marketers to craft and deliver effective and appealing marketing messages.

This unit introduces students to the study of demography and provides a platform of knowledge and skills for further population related studies. Students learn the techniques for analyzing population changes, and develop skills in the analysis of the size, composition and distribution of human populations.
