Simulation and Leadership in Counter Terrorism - PICT965

This unit provides students with a deep understanding of the various dimensions, ideas and practices relating to successful leadership at the individual, group and organisational levels. Students will explore the cutting-edge academic research on leadership as well as learn practical skills directly from senior leaders in a range of fields. Skills developed in this unit will include the ability to build a strategic vision, to develop a sense of responsibility, to enhance group cohesion, and to influence and motivate a team to achieve a desirable end state. Students will also gain an understanding of how leadership differs across cultures, particularly between Eastern and Western societies. The unit provides students with a deep understanding of the various dimension of leadership. Skills developed in this unit will include the ability to build a strategic vision, to develop a sense of responsibility, and to influence and motivate others by creating a vision of a desirable end state. In the second half of the semester, students will apply the knowledge they have gained throughout their program of study to a real world crisis. Students enrolled in this unit will perform the role of the counter terrorism expert.
